Hula Hoops

During one of our P.E. lessons we took part in some hula hoop activities.

For the Tic Tac Toe Race, nine hula hoops were placed on the ground in rows of 3 X 3. We were divided into two teams. Each team had different small coloured balls. Each group tried to get three balls either across, down or diagonal.

For the Fruit Game, we made a circle of hula hoops with one less than the number of students in our class. We pretended to be a particular fruit. One student stood in the middle and called out a fruit. Those of us who pretended to be that fruit tried to find another hula hoop. When we heard fruit salad, all of us tried to find a new hula hoop. The objective of the game was for the student in the middle to find a hula hoop, while we tried to find a new hula hoop. When this happened, the student without a hula hoop went in the middle.

During the last activity we took part in Hopscotch Relay. We were grouped into two teams. Two Hopscotch diagrams were formed by placing ten hula hoops on the ground for each of the two teams. This activity started when the first students from both groups hopped and jumped in the hula hoops until they reached the tenth hula hoop. Then, they ran back to their team, so other students could take part.

Hula hoops also help to strengthen muscles and improve coordination.
