Friday Special

Last Friday we had a great team building activity using this enormous human elastic band. It took us some time to get used to it as we had to adjust ourselves as a group to the band’s tension and at one point lean against it. It was an awkward feeling but once we felt safe enough we managed to settle and lean comfortably in. We also swapped places when our teachers called names.

At the end we sat in the band and discussed how we felt during this activity. Some of us said they were uneasy, insecure and afraid at first. We agreed that we could have communicated better and that having a leader helps in certain situations. Above all, we felt that we needed to trust each other in order to be able to have everyone leaning comfortably in the band.

With our teacher we discussed how we can compare this to everyday classroom situations where we feel more comfortable and at ease when we feel we can trust those around us. This is why we should all make an effort to create a positive environment in the classroom where everyone feels accepted and part of the team.
