In the past weeks our class has been learning about waste management. This is one of the topics in our Social Studies syllabus. For this particular topic we used the Freedom to Learn (our Erasmus+ Project) approach wherein instead of getting knowledge from our booklet and online videos only, we explored other ways how we could learn about this interesting topic.

Together with our teacher we discussed what learning activities we could engage in. We came up with two ideas that were that of having a vox pop with the residents of Zabbar and a discussion at school with Zabbar Mayor Mr Jorge Grech and councillor in charge of waste management Captain Patrick Barbara. These two activities not only enriched our knowledge about this subject but through the process of learning we acquired new skills which we can now use in other studies. Some of these skills were setting up a questionnaire, recording and deriving information from the data collected, evaluate information and propose solutions to problems and understanding the responsibilities one needs to fulfill when working in a group.
